The 2014 Fall Conference in Kentucky will have Forrest Pritchard has the featured speaker. Mr. Pritchard and his family own and operate Smith Meadows Farm at Berryville, VA and produce grass raised/finished beef, pork and chicken along with free range eggs. They sell their products at the major farmers markets in the Washington, D. C. area and at a farm store at their home.

Mr. Pritchard earned degrees in English and Geology from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. He returned to the family farm after graduation and after a few months decided to farm full time.

He is the author of Gaining Ground A Story of Farmers’ Markets, Local Food, and Saving the Family Farm. This book chronicles the struggles he and his family faced in trying to save the family farm and turning it into a profitable business. Gaining Ground has been listed as a top ten book by Publishers Weekly, Washingtonian, and featured on NPR’s The Splendid Table.
