A Brief History

Until recently, there were two organizations in North America devoted to preserving and promoting the Devon cattle breed: the North American Devon Association (NADA) and the American Devon Cattle Association (ADCA). On March 7, 2013 the Board of Directors of both organizations met and voted unanimously to approve a merger. Then in May 2013, both boards came together once again to begin working out the final details necessary to form what would soon become the single, merged organization: Red Devon USA.

One Organization, One Mission

Now, with members and boards from both organizations working collaboratively under one tent, Red Devon USA is an organization whose mission is to see the Red Devon breed carefully preserved for future generations.

There are three broad objectives necessary to accomplish this mission:

  1. Member Recruitment & Support – Recruit and support new Red Devon USA members. This includes farmers, ranchers, breeders and cattlemen and women of every stripe across North America. We want to provide our members with unparalleled support, educational resources and industry connections, all of which will further improve their bottom lines. We believe grass-fed, grass-finished Devon cattle don’t just provide superior meat quality and ecological sustainability, they also provide better economic outcomes for the producers.
  2. Awareness – Raise awareness about the superior attributes of the Red Devon breed and its ability to produce the finest grass-fed, grass-finished beef in the industry. This requires both increased awareness among current and prospective breeders and farmers as well as increased awareness among consumers (which will inevitably help increase consumer demand).
  3. Breed Purity – Maintaining accurate registrations of Red Devon cattle in order to ensure the purity of the breed is of the utmost importance. To help accomplish this objective, Red Devon USA is now working under a new registrar (Canadian Livestock Registry Corp – www.clrc.ca). Read more about our registry here
